چکیده

The CALICE Electromagnetic CALorimeter (ECAL) will be a silicon-tungsten sampling calorimeter [1] with 30 layers of silicon wafers, each containing an 18×18 array of diode pads, giving 9720 channels to be read out. The signal from each pad is amplified by a Very Front End (VFE) ASIC [2] which multiplexes the signals from 18 pads onto one output line. The silicon wafers and VFE chips are mounted on VFE PCBs [3], each containing up to 12 VFE ASICs, equivalent to 216 pads. The signal cables from the VFE PCBs connect directly to the readout boards and the latter are the subject of this paper.

Prototype Calorimeters for Linear Collider Detectors

For several years, CALICE has been testing highly granular calorimeter prototypes using analogue readout. These devices are envisaged for particle flow [1] application in a future linear collider detector. A novel alternative, especially interesting for the hadron calorimeter, is to use a simplified digital (= 1 – bit) readout coupled with very small cell sizes. In the past year the first large...

Hadronic showers in the CALICE calorimeter prototypes

The CALICE collaboration has constructed highly granular electromagnetic and hadronic calorimeter prototypes to evaluate technologies for the use in detector systems at the future International Linear Collider. These calorimeters have been tested extensively in particle beams at CERN and at Fermilab. We present preliminary results of an analysis of hadronic events in the combined system under t...

A first prototype of a scintillator strip-based electromagnetic calorimeter was built, consisting of 26 layers of tungsten absorber plates interleaved with planes of 45×10×3 mm plastic scintillator strips. Data were collected using a positron test beam at DESY with momenta between 1 and 6 GeV/c. The prototype’s performance is presented in terms of the linearity and resolution of the energy

The Tail-Catcher/Muon Tracker for the CALICE Test Beam

The CALICE (CAlorimeter for the Linear Collider with Electrons) collaboration [1] plans to examine several technology and geometry options for electromagnetic and hadronic calorimetry at the proposed International Linear Collider. Since in many geometries the total material thickness of the calorimeter is too little to fully contain highly energetic hadronic showers, it is important to gain a g...
